LASER GENESIS
The Cutera Laser Genesis is one of the most advanced non-invasive laser rejuvenation treatments available on the market. Laser Genesis utilises non-invasive laser technology to safely and effectively treat fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, uneven skin texture, diffuse redness and scars. You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without wanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Treatments can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of topical anaesthetics or gel. Often referred to as a “lunch time procedure,” laser genesis takes just 30 minutes, and there’s no downtime.
Laser Genesis works by penetrating the skin’s surface and gently heating the upper dermis (the layer of the skin where collagen is found) through thousands of micro-pulses of light. Collagen is a structural protein that plays a key role in maintaining skin strength and elasticity. Production of collagen naturally slows over time, causing wrinkles, skin laxity and other changes associated with skin ageing.
Laser Genesis helps reverse these changes by generating heat that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes and activates collagen remodelling. This simultaneously enhances the skin’s quality on a cellular level and creates visible improvements on the skin’s surface. The heat from the laser genesis can also break down scar tissue, and helps to shrink blood vessels and diffuse redness.
Laser Genesis can be suitable for various candidates with different skin concerns.
Some suitable candidates for Laser Genesis include individuals with fine lines and wrinkles since the treatment stimulates collagen production, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Candidates with enlarged pores can benefit from the treatment as it can help reduce the size of enlarged pores, leading to a more refined skin texture.
For those with uneven skin texture, Laser Genesis can effectively even out the skin’s texture, reducing the appearance of scars, acne scars, and other textural irregularities.
Individuals with mild to moderate acne may find relief through the treatment. The laser’s heat can target the sebaceous glands in the skin, reducing acne breakouts and promoting clearer skin.
Laser Genesis can help people with redness or rosacea, as it can decrease redness and diffuse redness associated with rosacea, resulting in a more even skin tone.
The treatment can also address sun damage by helping to fade sunspots and other hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure.
Laser Genesis treatments provide excellent results on entire faces, as well as necks, décolletage and hands. Scars can be treated anywhere on the body.
Cease the use of vitamin A on the skin 5 days prior to treatment
Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
Excess hair may need to be shaved. Men should be cleanly shaved.
No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.
Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (Waxing, depilatories, etc.)
Notify clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.
History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription, such as Valtrex, prior to your appointment
Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. We often describe the feeling as warm raindrops on your skin. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure. You can immediately return to normal activities, and sunscreen should be worn if participating in outdoor activities.
Laser genesis is considered a very low risk procedure. The most commonly observed and reported side effect is skin redness immediately after the procedure. However, this is transient and is known to subside shortly after. In a few other cases, a local swelling is observed which resolved after 2-3 days. In very rare cases the skin may get bruised.
In rare cases, laser treatments can cause blistering or crusting of the skin. This is more likely to occur if the treatment settings are too aggressive or if proper aftercare instructions are not followed.
Another risk is changes in skin pigmentation, where hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) or hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) may occur, although this is typically temporary.
There is also a small risk of infection at the treatment site. To minimise this risk, it’s essential for patients to keep the treated area clean and follow all post-treatment instructions provided.
While rare, there is a potential risk of scarring, especially in individuals with a keloid or hypertrophic scarring history. Patients should disclose any scarring history before undergoing the procedure.
Other important side effects to be aware of:
Skin Colour Changes - During the healing process, there is a possibility that the treated area may become either lighter (hypopigmentation) or darker (hyperpigmentation) in colour compared to the surrounding skin. This is usually temporary, but, on a rare occasion, it may be permanent.
Itching/Drying Skin - Treatment may results in itching and/or dry skin.
Red Rash/Bumps - Red rash/bumps may appear after treatment. This resolves with time.
Wounds - Treatment can result in burning, blistering, or bleeding of the treated areas. If any of these occur, please contact our clinic.
Sun Exposure/Tanning Beds/Artificial Tanning - May increase risk of side effects and adverse events.
Eye Exposure - Protective eyewear (shields) will be provided to you during the treatment. Failure to wear eye shields during the entire treatment may cause severe and permanent eye damage.
As with any medical procedure, it is extremely important that you brief your treating nurse about your previous and current medical condition. It is also always helpful to be aware of the possible risks and side effects. If you've ever had a reaction to a laser of any type, consult with your doctor before a laser genesis treatment.
The results of a single Laser Genesis treatment are immediate but subtle. You will notice a healthier, more radiant complexion as minor imperfections diminish, fine lines soften and pores are minimised. With a series of Laser Genesis treatments, your results can be quite dramatic. Over the course of multiple sessions, you can expect a reduction of diffuse redness, fading of acne scarring, reduced appearance of lines and pores, and an increasingly youthful look propelled by new collagen production.
Laser Genesis is typically suitable for those in good general health, without any contraindications that can raise the risk of complications post-treatment. You will discuss your suitability for the treatment during a consultation with one of our registered nurses.
Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should avoid the treatment. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s best to wait until after this phase before considering Laser Genesis or other cosmetic treatments.
Those with a keloid or hypertrophic scarring history may not be suitable candidates. The treatment involves stimulating collagen production, which, in some cases, can worsen the appearance of raised scars. If you tend to develop keloid or hypertrophic scars, you may be advised against undergoing the treatment to avoid any adverse effects on the treated areas.
Certain medical conditions and medications may also be contraindicated for Laser Genesis treatment. For example, individuals with active skin infections, inflammatory skin conditions, or a history of skin cancer may not be suitable candidates.
We also look for candidates with realistic expectations of what the procedure can achieve. While the treatment can significantly improve skin texture, tone, and certain skin concerns, it may not provide the same dramatic results as more invasive procedures.
We recommend a series of 6 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart depending on the skin concern. After this series, maintenance treatments will be required. A lot of our patients will add a laser genesis treatment to their 4-8 weekly facial routine.
Immediately after each treatment you will experience glowing, plump like effects – these will often last about 1 week. The deeper effects such as collagen and elastin production will last up to 4 weeks post treatment, we find the more treatments our patients have the better their results become.
A combined treatment approach often yields the most significant benefits. At Beauty Lab & Laser, we recommend:
Laser Genesis and Vascular Laser A combination of short and long pulsed laser to improve redness and skin texture
Laser Genesis and Laser for Pigment A combined treatment for pigmentation and skin texture
Laser Genesis and Skin Needling A combined treatment for acne scarring
Genesis Peel A Custom chemical peel and Laser Genesis
Laser Genesis and Rejuvenation Mask
