LIMELIGHT IPL BY CUTERA
Limelight Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is an innovative, non-invasive treatment that uses intense pulses of light to target pigment, redness and broken capillaries, visibly improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging and sun damage. IPL doesn’t affect the surface of the skin and therefore has significantly less discomfort and downtime than laser resurfacing treatments.
Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Repairs the appearance of skin damage
Revitalises sun-damaged skin
Improves colour, texture, and tone of the skin
Reduces the appearance of brown spots (freckles) and solar lentigines.
Effective at treating broken capillaries and facial redness (including acne rosacea and poikiloderma).
LimeLight Therapy uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to heat up the darker areas of your skin and cause the destruction of the pigmented brown and/or red cells that make up those dark spots. These dark spots then darken and flake off over a period of 7-10 days. With the heat generated from this treatment, Limelight IPL can also stimulate the production of new collagen, therefore reducing the appearance of fine line and wrinkles.
Many patients describe Limelight as feeling like a mild pinch or a short flick of a rubber band. There can be some discomfort, however the Limelight handpiece can be used to cool the area before and after treatment to help minimise discomfort.
A pre-treatment skin test is compulsory before having Limelight. This must be done at least 24 hrs prior to treatment so that we can establish the safest and most effective treatment setting for your skin. These tests are free and can be booked through our online booking site under the laser treatment section.
Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
No sun-tanning or self-tanners 2 weeks prior to treatment.
Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure and inadvertent sun exposure.
Some medications or supplements may increase the risk bruising. Consult with your Dr before treatment.
Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, facials, skin peels, others).
Notify the clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.
History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription PRIOR to treatment for at least a few days.
The Limelight Facial is ideal for any part of your face, neck, décolleté, arms and hands with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots.
This procedure should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women
If you have an active skin infection or eruption you are not a candidate at this time
This laser cannot treat over areas with tattoos
Patients should not be treated if they had significant sun exposure, or artificial (light based or spray-on) tanning in the four weeks prior to treatment
Hair removal may occur as a result of these treatments
If you are prone to keloids, hyper or hypo-pigmentation, are dark-skinned, darkly tanned or do not react well to burns you may not be an ideal candidate for IPL Skin Rejuvenation or Laser Vascular treatments (excludes Laser Genesis treatments).
Although modern lasers and IPLs are extremely safe, a patch test and full medical history is an essential pre-requisite of any laser and IPL treatment. The patch test is used to determine the safe and effective settings that can be used on your skin and hair type.
This patch test is free and can be booked online under the laser treatment section.
Short-term redness (erythema) is common and swelling (edema) of the treated area may occur. A hive like reaction may occur with smaller vessels. Purpura/Bruising is a transient phenomenon that usually resolves with time.
Darkening of the pigment, with the skin having a “dirty” appearance or looking like it’s been sprinkled with cocoa powder; this will disappear over 7 – 10 days.
A “stripey” appearance can occur where the skin has not yet been treated and this will be tidied up on review over the following week with a subsequent treatment. Sometimes hormonal pigmentation, known as melasma or chloasma, may paradoxically darken after IPL treatment.
Recurrence of red or brown lesions will occur if the post treatment guidelines are not followed.
Discomfort/Pain: Some discomfort maybe experience during treatment. Pain may include the feeling of burning, stinging and radiating pain.
Hemosiderin Staining: (iron leaking into the tissue from blood breakdown) may occur and usually results over time, but it may be permanent.
Skin Colour Changes: During the healing process, there is a slight possibility that the treated area may become either lighter(hypopigmentation) or darker (hyper pigmentation) in colour compared to the surrounding skin. This is usually temporary, but, on a rare occasion, it may be permanent.
Epidermal Crusting: Pigmented lesions my crust as part of the healing process. Epidermal crusting may develop over vascular lesions. It is important not to disturb the crusts. You may require medication if sensitivity or redness occurs. Crusts will typically slough off 7 to 14 days after treatment.
Wounds: Treatment can result in burning, blistering or bleeding of the treated areas. If any of these occur please call the clinic on 0405 706 011.
Burns & Infection: Infection is a rare possibility whenever the skin surface is disrupted, though proper wound care should prevent this. If signs of infection developed, such as pain, heat or surrounding redness please call our clinic on 0405 706 011.
Scarring: Scarring is a rare occurrence, but is a possibility if the skin surface is disrupted. To minimise the chances of scarring, it is IMPORTANT that you follow all post-treatment instructions provided by your treating clinician.
Textural Changes/Cutaneous Indentations: May occur as a result of heat diffusion and thermal injury to tissue surrounding vessels.
Undesirable Hair Reduction: Hair reduction may occur at treatment sites. This is usually temporary but in very rare cases, maybe permanent.
Eye Exposure: Protective eyewear (shields) will be provided to you during the treatment. Failure to wear eye shields during the entire treatment may cause severe and permanent eye damage.
1 to 3 treatments are usually sufficient. Additional treatments may be recommended for excessively sun-damaged skin. Rosacea cannot be cured completely with any laser or light source; however, its appearance can be improved.
Subsequent treatments can be booked 4 weeks apart.
After receiving a Limelight treatment, you may initially experience darkening of your pigmentation. The treated tissue may appear slightly red and feel more sensitive. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly 1-2 days in rare cases. Any discomfort usually subsides after a couple hours. The darkened areas will have a “coffee ground” look and will typically flake off after about 7-10 days.
